Waco Midway upsets Cedar Park at Home

The hometown Cedar Park fans were shocked.  Not only did their team lose on their home
turf, they also lost the season opener in which they were favored.

Neither Cedar Park nor the Waco Midway looked settled in the first half.  Midway fumbled the ball on their first possession, which Cedar Park’s Logan Mayou returned 29 yards for the first score of the season.  Cedar Park failed to convert the point after attempt.  Midway edged ahead with a 37-yard scoring pass from Tanner Mordecai to Will Nixon.  Midway led 7 – 6 at the end of the first quarter.

Cedar Park led the scoring, again, with an 8-yard TD pass from Mak Sexton to Sameer Alzer, and, again, missed the PAT.  Midway took a 14-12 lead into the locker room at halftime on a 25-yard TD run by James Fullbright.

Midway took control of the game in the third quarter with 14 unanswered points.  The first TD was a 44-yard pass from Tanner Mordecai to Cobe Burch, and the second a 57-yard run by James Fullbright.

Cedar Park found its legs in the fourth quarter and tied the game.  Ibri Leal found the end zone on a 2-yard run, and Mak Sexton on a 13-yard run.  Cedar Park successfully executed a two-point conversion after each score.

But Midway delivered a knockout punch with a 51-yard TD run by James Fullbright.  Final Score: Waco Midway 35, Cedar Park 28.
