Westwood Clobbers Lehman 63-13 in Season Opening

The Westwood Warrior kicked off the 2017 High School football season with an lopsided 63-13 victory over the Lehman Lobos. 

Westwood started the scoring on the first play from scrimmage with a 87-yard touchdown run by Jaikem Murphy, and followed with a two-point conversion.  Westwood scored again on a 55-yard pass from Will Jennings to Cameron Thomas.  Jaikem Murphy found the end zone, again, at 7:10 of the first quarter.  Lehman scored its first points on a 7-yard pass from Daniel O’Neal to Diego Romero.  Westwood led 22 – 6 at the end of the first quarter. 

The Westwood juggernaut continued in the second quarter, starting with a repeat of the Jennings to Thomas scoring combo.  Lehman found the end zone again midway through the quarter on a pass from O’Neal to Chastin Evans.  Westwood’s Will Jennings found Dylan Frazier for a 15-yard scoring pass, which was later followed by a 5-yard touchdown run by Cameron Thomas.  Westwood extended its lead to 43 – 13 at the half. 

The second half scoring belonged solely to Westwood.  Akhil Akshintala to an interception 54 yard
for the score, and the scoring combo of Jennings to Thomas scored for the third time.  The fourth quarter saw two Westwood field goals by Kaeden Roberts (24 and 37 yards).
