#1 Flint / Larson fall early at AVP Austin Open

Expectations were high for the duo of Betsi Flint and Kelley Larson at the AVP Austin Open.  Flint and Larson entered the tournament as #1 seeds with a combined total of 2030 points.   The team has become AVP favorites, winning hearts in September 2015 when they became the youngest team to win an AVP event title in Cincinnati.   The duo upset the tournament’s teams seeded second, third, fourth and sixth in route to the title.

In Austin, Flint and Larsen lost their second round match to #9 seeds Dowdy / Hester Pollock (21-12, 14-21, 15-9).  The team bounced back in the contender bracket, beating #14 seeds Smith / Zhang (21-17, 21-10).  Flint and Larson fell in their next match to #5 seeds Fopma / Reeves (21-14, 21-11).  Fopma and Reeves in turn lost to Pavlik and Ross, who eventually won the tournament.
