Ortola Capitalizes on Sasaki Mistake (April 16, 2023)

On Sunday, April 16, 2023, the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas played host to the latest round of the Moto3 World Championship. The race featured some of the best young riders in the world, competing on the challenging 5.5 km track.

The race began with Jaume Masia of the Leopard Racing team starting from pole position. He was joined on the front row by Ayumy Sasaki of the Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP team and Ivan Ortola of the Angeluss MTA team. As the lights went out, Masia made a good start and led the field into the first turn.


The first few laps were action-packed, with riders jostling for position and trying to establish themselves in the leading group. Masia managed to hold on to the lead, with Sasaki and Ortola staying close behind.

Further down the field, there were several battles for position, with riders trying to move up through the pack. Izan Guevara of the Gaviota Aspar team had a strong start and was running in fourth place. However, he was soon overtaken by Deniz Öncü of the Red Bull KTM Tech3 team and Andrea Migno of the Rivacold Snipers Team.


As the race progressed, the leading group began to break away from the rest of the field. Masia continued to lead, with Suzuki and Garcia staying close behind. The three riders began to pull away from the chasing pack, and it became clear that the battle for the win would be between them.

The final few laps of the race were thrilling, with Ortola, Masia, and Artigas all trying to make a move for the lead. However, Ortola was able to hold them off and crossed the finish line in first place. Suzuki finished in second place, just 0.2 seconds behind Masia. Artigas completed the podium in third place.


The rest of the top ten finishers included Diogo Moreira in fourth place, Daniel Hogado in fifth place, Deniz Oncu in sixth place, David Salvador in seventh place, David Alonso in eighth place, Ryusei Yamanaka in ninth place, and Jose Antonio Rueda in tenth place.

Overall, the Moto3 race in Austin provided a fantastic spectacle for the fans, with some thrilling battles for position throughout the field.  Masia's victory was well-deserved, and he showed that he is one of the top young riders in the world.
