#10 Baylor Starts Fast, Topples #5 Texas (December 30, 2023)

The #10 Baylor University Bears started fast and didn’t letup as they defeated the #5 University of Texas Longhorns, 85-to-79.  Texas played without point guard Rori Harmon,who is out for the season with a torn ACL, and Taylor Jones, who is sidelinedwith a hip injury. 

The vibe in the Moody Center was not the same as Rori Harmonmoved to the bench on crutches.  Texas headcoach Vic Schaefer appeared unsettled as he stepped onto the floor, and wasseen madding last-minutes note by cell phone flashlight during the players introductions.

Texas Tops Long Beach Despite Distractions (December 6, 2023)

It was a night full of distractions for the University Texas Longhorns women’s basketball team. 

They entered the game in the middle of final exams.  They opened the game receiving their Big 12 Championship rings from last season.  Midway through the game they had the annual Teddy Bear Toss.  And at the end of the game, they met with head coach Vic Schaefer’s friend and mentor, Gary Blair. 

And between all that the Longhorns defeated Long Beach State University 106-to-62.  

Texas Defeats UConn for the First Time (December 3, 2023) 

The No. 10/11 University of Texas Longhorns women's basketball team soundly defeated the No. 11/12 University of Connecticut Huskies, 80-68, in front of a capacity crowd of over 10,763 fans.  Texas took an early 15-to-3 lead and never trailed.  The win was Texas’ first over UConn in program. 

Rori Harmon led all players 27 points and tied her career-high with 13 assists. Harmon also pulled down five rebounds.  The double-double was the 10th of Harmon’s career. Only two of Harmon’s other double-double performances came against a ranked opponent.

Texas Women Down Oral Roberts on Kids Day (November 29, 2023)

The #10 University of Texas Longhorns women’s basketball leaned heavily on their offense to defeat the Oral Roberts University Golden Eagles, 112-to-74.  The game was played before 7200 screaming grade school students visiting the 40 Acres.  

“Well, if you liked offense that was a pretty fun game to watch.  For me, I probably didn’t have as much fun as a lot of people,” said Texas head coach Vic Schaefer.  “I can’t remember the last time I’ve had a team score 61, but then give up 50 (in a half).  I don’t think that’s ever happened in my career.”  

Texas’ Bigs Too Much for Louisiana Tech (November 19, 2023)

Vic Schaefer’s mantra has always been “you win with guard play.”  Tonight, Schaefer’s Texas Longhorns used guard play to setup a massive inside attack, giving the Longhorns a lopsided 96-to-44 win over Louisiana Tech. 

Texas guards generated 18 assists to set up centers Taylor Jones and Khadija Faye for a combined 30 points, 12 rebounds.  All total, the Longhorns tallied 54 points from the paint and 24 second chance points. 

Chemistry Gels as Texas Tops UTA (November 14, 2023)

The University of Texas Longhorns (3-and-0) revealed the possibilities of this season’s team in a 110-to-64 drubbing on the University of Texas at Arlington Mavericks (0-and-3). 

“Really please on how we played from a chemistry standpoint.  I though we made some steps tonight,” said Texas head coach Vic Schaefer.  “Just though we, hopefully, turned the corner there a little bit, and shared the ball.” 

Texas Takes Southern in Season Opener (November 8, 2023)

The No. 13/14 University of Texas Longhorns (1-0) handily defeated the Southern University Jaguars, (0-2), 80-35, in their season opener at Moody Center.  The Longhorns never trailed during the game and held the Jaguars to single-digit points in the first three quarters. 

Taylor Jones led Texas with 19 points and 12 rebounds, claiming her fourth double-double as a Longhorn.   Amina Muhammed her first career double-double just 5:16 mark into second quarter with 14 points and 14 rebounds. 

Texas Women’s Soccer Says Goodbye with Big12 Championship (November 4, 2023)

The University of Texas Longhorns women’s soccer team came out strong, then took it to a higher level, to defeat the Brigham Young University Cougars 3-to-1 to win the Big 12 Championship.  The match was Texas’ last in the Big 12, as they move to the Southeast Conference. 

The win brough Texas their first championship since 2007 and comes with an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.  

Texas Out-toughs Texas Tech Women’s Soccer (November 1, 2023)

Something not often said this season is Texas was the tougher team.  The 4th seed Longhorns’ journey to the Big 12 Championship tournament was one of a skillful team defeating a less skillful team.  It has not been one of a tougher team defeating a less tough team, until tonight. 

The University of Texas Longhorns women’s soccer was the tougher team, showing grit and wanton desire, as they defeated the Texas Tech Red Raiders 1-to-0 in the semifinals of the Big 12 Championship.  

UT Women’s Basketball Media Day: Vic Schaefer’s Thoughts (October 26, 2023)

Excerpt from the University of Texas Women’s Basketball team’s Media Day held on October 26, 2023: 

Opening remarks: 

They’re just focused, one game, one day at a time, trying to get 1% better every day.  And we’ll try, as coaches, keeping them focused one game at a time.  I think when you do that, and you don’t get too far ahead of yourself, that when you can look up in March and realized you a really hot team, special team, and you got a chance to do something in post season.  

First Glimpse Texas Women’s Basketball (October 24, 2023)

Fans and media got their first glimpse of the 2023/24 University of Texas women’s basketball team at the annual Orange & White Scrimmage at the Moody Center. 

Forward Aaliyah Moore, still recovering from ACL surgery, served as master of ceremony.  Notable in the player introductions were Khadija Faye, who sporting the flag of the Republic of Senegal, and Mississippian Madison Booker, who looked every bit the Texas, weaning a cowboy.

#14 Texas Women’s Soccer Fall in Last Second (September 21, 2023)

A storybook ending for one is a nightmare for another.  Hannah Anderson’s goal in the final second of play gave the Texas Tech Red Raiders a 2-to-1 win over the #14 University of Texas Longhorns. 

The loss was Texas first regular season Big 12 Conference loss since November 6, 2020. 

"I knew it was going to be a battle; it always is against Texas Tech. It wasn't a great way to end a match at home," said Texas head coach Angela Kelly

Texas Women’s Basketball Make Ready (September 13, 2023)

TTL Sports Media caught an early glimpse of the University of Texas women’s basketball team as they participated in pre-season conditioning exercises in the Bubble at Frank Denius Fields.  These conditioning exercises were not practices, which are closely regulated by the NCAA. 

The Longhorns return all but one player from the 2022-23 team, representing 88% of their scoring and 94% of their rebounding.  Rori Harmon was the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and an All-American for the second straight season.  DeYona Gaston was a First Team All-Big 12 selection.  Shaylee Gonzales, who passed 2,000 career points was named the 2022 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year.  Amina Muhammad earned a spot on the 2022 Big 12 All-Freshman Team.

#17 Texas, #23 Gonzaga Battle to Draw (September 10, 2023)

The #17 Texas Longhorns battled to a 0-0 draw against the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Texas has not allowed a goal in its last 495:59, setting a program record for most consecutive games without allowing a goal. 

Texas and Gonzaga were evenly matched by nearly every measure: Gonzaga led slightly in shots (20-to-19) and  shots on target (9-to-8).   Each team had two corner kicks and committed six fouls.  

Texas Takes SF Austin in Record Setting Affair (September 7, 2023)

The #17 Texas Longhorn routed the Stephen F Austin Woodchopper by a final score of 7-to-0.  The win was the most lopsided in the series history.  The only Texas player to stay on the pitch longer than 60 minutes was goalkeeper Mia Justus.   

The Longhorns were led by Lexi Missimo with three goals and four assist.  Also finding the back of the net were Trinity Byars, Avery Clark, Lauren Lapomarda, Jilly Shimkin and Arianna Brothers.  

Texas Over UTRGV, One for the Record Books (August 31, 2023)

Trinity Byars, in only her junior year, set a program record with her fourth career hat trick, as the University of Texas Longhorn thrashed the University of Texas Rio Grande Vaqueros, 5-to-0. 

"I don't think I'll ever get bored of being a broken record,” said Texas head coach Angela Kelly on Trinity Byars' fourth hat trick. “She just finds open spaces and her teammates look for her and she's just clinical with her finishes." 

LSU Best Texas Women’s Soccer (August 24, 2023)

The Louisiana State University Tigers defeated the University of Texas Longhorns in women’s soccer, 3-to-1, giving the Longhorns a taste what is to come in SEC. 

Texas had the enthusiasm, and the opportunities, but appeared to lack the discipline.  The Longhorns out-shot LSU 18-to12 in total, but were even with shots-on-target at seven each.  Texas also had the advantage on corner kicks, 8-to-4, but also committed more fouls (14-to-10).  Each team was shown a yellow card.  

Vic Schaefer on 2023 / 24 Season (August 22, 2023)

Vic Schaefer, head coach for the University of Texas women’s basketball, spoke with the media on the upcoming 2023 / 24 basketball season.  These are some of his key comments from the press conference: 

“This is a different group.  They’ve been diligent in the gym, all summer.  Working extremely hard.” 

“At the end of the day, you have a gym full of people, and they’re here on their own.” 

“This summer’s probably been the best summer I’ve had as a coach in a long, long time, if ever.  And certainly, the best summer we’ve had here at Texas.”  

Byars’ Hat Trick Sends #15 Texas Past Rice (August 20, 2023)

Junior Trinity Byars led the University of Texas Longhorn women’s soccer team (2-0-0) to a 6-0 win over the Rice University Owls (0-2-0) with a first-half hat trick.  The feat ties a school record for the most career hat tricks.  

"I don't get sick of saying it, but (Trinity) is very special, and in combination with Lexi (Missimo), her and Lexi are a special combination: five goals and two assists among the two of them today was remarkable,” said Texas Head Coach Angela Kelly.  “I said it in the press conference at the beginning of the season, I'm just grateful I'm not the coaches who are organizing (defenses) to play against them, especially when they do such a good job of inviting in the rest of the players to make a four-or-five-player combination." 

Texas Tops UT Arlington (May 9, 2023)

Porter Brown went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and three runs to lead the University of Texas Longhorns (33-17) over the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) Mavericks (25-22) by a score of 10-to-5.  Peyton Powell, Garret Guillemette and Eric Kennedy each had two hits. 

Texas’ starter Charlie Hurley (4-0)  pitched five solid innings, allowing just two runs on five hits. He struck-out two batters with no walks.  

Texas Walks Off, Topping #14 Tech (March 25, 2023)

The University of Texas Longhorn baseball team overcame a top of the ninth rally with a walk off 6-to-5 win against the #14 Texas Tech University Red Raiders. 

The Red Raiders put up two runs in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game at 5-all.  Then came Texas lead-off hitter Porter Brown. Brown doubled, took third base on a balk, and score on a wild pitch.  

Texas Falls Hard to Louisville in NCAA Second Round (March 20, 2023)

It’s not often that a head coach begins a press conference with an apology.  But that’s exactly what Texas head coach Vic Schaeffer did. 

“I need to apologize to the University of Texas for today and how my team played,” said Vic Schaeffer.   “This university deserves better than that and I'm accountable for that.”

Texas Dominates East Carolina NCAA First Round (March 18, 2023)

On March 18, 2023, the NCAA March Madness women's basketball game between the University of Texas Longhorns and University of East Carolina Pirates took place. The game was highly anticipated, with both teams eager to secure a spot in the next round of the tournament. However, Texas emerged as the clear victor with a final score of 76-40.

From the start, it was evident that Texas was the stronger team. They dominated the court, with their players displaying impressive skills in both offense and defense. East Carolina struggled to keep up, and it wasn't long before Texas took a significant lead. 

Lucas Near Perfect, Leads Texas over Manhattan (March 10, 2023)

Starting pitcher Gordon Lucas threw six innings of near-perfect baseball to lead the University of Texas Longhorns over Manhattan College Jaspers by a final score of 8-to-1. 

Lucas (W, 1-0) allowed no runs or hits, striking out nine and walking three, in six innings of work.  Relievers Charlie Hurley and JD Burke closed the game. 

Manhattan starter Will Hesslink (L, 0-4) endured the loss, allowing three runs on five hits in six innings.  Hesslink struck out five batters and walked four.  

UT Players Fall in ATX Quarterfinals (March 3, 2023)

Local University of Texas players faltered in Day 5 of the ATX Open in the singles and doubles quarterfinals. 

The ATX Open is in Austin for its inaugural season.  It is the city’s only professional tour-level tennis tournament, and is one of five women’s-only tour-level tennis tournaments in the country. 

Baylor Upsets #12 Texas on Senior Night (February 27, 2023)

It was a different team that stepped on to the court to take on the University of Baylor Bears, and it wasn’t the team that handily defeated Oklahoma on their home court.  The University of Texas Longhorns fell, 54-to-63, to Baylor. 

The disappointment hurt on many fronts.  A win would have clinched the Big 12 Championship for Texas.  The team was playing before their largest crowd of the season, 10,763 fans.  It was the final home for the Seniors.  And the team honored the Neighborhood Longhorns program with a check for $156,000.  

Texas Easily Handles A&M Corpus Christi (February 21, 2023)

Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders may have had the first word, but it was certainly not the last, as the University of Texas Longhorns handily won, 12-to-2, in men’s baseball. 

Longhorn starting pitcher Lebarron Johnson (1-1) earned the win, allowing one run on three hits in five innings on the mound.  Johnson struck out eight and walked three batters.  Texas used four relievers in the effort, who collectively allowed one additional run on three hits.  

Texas Overwhelms West Virginia (February 19, 2023)

The Texas Longhorns (21-7, 12-3) women basketball team thoroughly dominated the West Virginia Mountaineers, winning 74-to-48.  Texas held West Virginia to 27% shooting effectiveness from the field. 

Texas controlled the area around the basket, out-rebounding the Mountaineers 53-to-27 and out-scoring them 32-to-16 in the paint.  The Longhorns were surprising effective from distance, hitting 56% of three-point attempts (5-for-9), compared to an overall 41% (24-for-59) conversion from the field.  Texas nailed 79% from the charity stripe.  

Texas Tops TCU in Unbecoming Win (February 11, 2023)

The University of Texas Longhorns women’s basketball team (20-6, 11-2 Big 12) defeated the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs (6-18, 0-13 Big 12), 70-to-50, in a game that wasn’t as good as it’s score. 

“I’m not gonna sugar-coat it.  I don’t think we played very well.  I don’t think my team would think we played very well,” said Texas head coach Vic Schaefer. 

Texas appeared to lack spark, shooting 46% from the field, but hit a paltry 18% from distance and only 50% from the charity strip.  They turned the ball over 17 times.  

Texas Outlasts Texas Tech Late Surge (February 8, 2023)

The University of Texas Longhorns women’s basketball team (19-6, 10-2 Big 12) survived a 32-point fourth quarter effort  by the Texas Tech University Lady Raiders (16-8, 4-7 Big 12) to win 80-to-71.  Tech controlled the middle of the final frame, out-scoring Texas 17-to-6. 

“We’ll take it and go on to the next one,” said Texas head coach Vic Schaefer.  “Hard to win in this league.  Texas Tech made it real hard.  We played pretty well for three quarters.  Fourth quarter was just really, really poor.”  

Technical Delays Can’t Stop Texas Against Oklahoma State (January 28, 2023)

The University of Texas Longhorns (16-6, 7-2)  women’s basketball jumped out to an 11-2 lead and captured a 78-69 victory over the Oklahoma State University Cowgirls (14-7, 4-5).  Texas never trailed in the game. 

The game was delayed by three-quarters of an hour with score board problems.  The final minutes of the first half were played with a verbal shot clock countdown, and the entire second half was played with backup clocks. 

Texas Stuffs Oklahoma for Share of Conference Lead (January 25, 2023)

The University of Texas Longhorns (15-6, 6-2) took the opening tipoff for an easy layup, made their next seven shots, and never looked back, defeating the Oklahoma University Sooners (16-3, 6-2) by a score of 78-to-58.  The Longhorns held the Sooners to 29 points below their season scoring average. 

Texas was led by DeYona Gaston with 19 points.  Taylor Jones scored 16 points, Shaylee Gonzales scored 12 points and added a season-high seven assists, six rebounds and four steals and Rori Harmon scored 10 points and added six assists and five rebounds. 

Guards Lifts Texas over #23 Kansas (January 10, 2023)

The University of Texas Longhorn (12-5, 3-1 Big 12) women’s basketball team handily defeated the #23 Kansas University Jayhawks (12-3, 2-2 Big 12) by a final score of 72-to-59.  The Longhorns never trailed and led by as many as 15 points. 

Both teams entered the contest hungry, each coming off loses of their first games in Big 12 conference play. Kansas fell to No. 23 Baylor 75-to-62 and Texas was topped by Oklahoma State in an 86-to-82 nail-biter.  Better scouting appeared to give Texas the advantage.  

Texas Women Win 6th Straight, Top A&M Commerce (December 12, 2022)

The University of Texas Longhorns women’s basketball team (9-4) walloped the Texas A&M Commerce University (TAMUC) Lions (2-9) by a score of 96-to-53. 

Texas were led by Rori Harmon who posted a season high 15 points with 10 assists and six rebounds in just 26 minutes on the court.  Five additional Longhorn notched double digits, including Khadija Faye with 14 points and 10 rebounds.  

Texas Women Smothers Southern (December 4, 2022)

The No. 22 / 18 University of Texas Longhorns (4-4) handily defeated the Southern University Jaguars (2-5) by a score of 92-to-43.  Graduate tranfer Shaylee Gonzales led all players with 22 points. 

“I’m feeling more like myself,” Gonzales said. “Getting comfortable with the system and knowing my role.” 

#3 Texas Drops Louisiana in a Game to be Forgotten (November 11, 2022)

Rough.  Not a diamond in a rough.  Just rough. 

That’s the best way to describe the #3 University of Texas Longhorns (1-0) women’s basketball team as the defeat University of Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (1-1), 68-to-45. 

This is not the team that I expected to see after two, 100-point plus exhibition games, and a team about to travel to Storrs, Connecticut to take on the #6 Huskies. 

The Longhorns committed 25 turnovers, shot only 39% from the floor and 9% from beyond the arc.  The turnovers were the most for a Schaefer-coached team at Texas. 

Mountaineers Top Longhorns in Championship Semi’s (November 3, 2022)

The University of Texas Longhorns, the Big 12 regular season women’s soccer champion, failed to advance in the conference championship, falling to the West Virginia Mountaineers 1-0.  The loss was Texas’ first 18 matches. 

The match’s only goal came in the 42nd minute of play off the foot of West Virginia’s Lauren Segalla.  The goal came just moments after a no-call penalty in the box against Texas’ Trinity Byars by Jordan Brewster.  

Texas Opens Big 12 Tourney with Clean Sheet (October 30, 2022)

The University of Texas Longhorn women’s soccer team netted three goals in under nine minutes to soundly defeat the Kansas State Wildcats in the quarterfinal match of the Big 12 Championship. The final score was 4-0. 

Holly Ward opened the scoring in the 26th minute, after Texas two goals called back for off-sides.  Ward tapped-in in a EmJ Cox header off a Lexi Missimo corner kick.  

Huge Second Half Lifts Texas (October 6, 2022)

After a lackluster first half, the University of Texas Longhorns women’s soccer team (9-1-3, 3-0-1)  over powered the Kansas State University Wildcats (4-7-2, 0-3-1) by a final score of 4-to-0 in a Big 12 Conference matchup. Texas’ goals all came within a 14-minute window in the second half. 

Texas extends its program record Big 12 Conference regular-season unbeaten streak to 13 straight matches (9-0-4) with the win.  

Byars Leads Texas Over Baylor (September 30, 2022)

Trinity Byars scored he Big 12 Conference-leading 11th goal of the season  to push Texas past Baylor by a score of 1-to-0.  The second largest crowd of season (3130) came out to support their favorite soccer team.  

Byars’ goal came in the 28th minute, as she split two defenders before taking the shot from the top of the box. Byars is  just one goal from tying her career high of 12 goals established during her 2021 freshman year. The 11 goals tie her for seventh in a single season in Texas program history. 

Mother of all Routs, Texas over Texas Southern (September 15, 2022)

If there was a mercy rule in NCAA soccer, than this was the time to have used it. 

The University of Texas Longhorns should have been embarrassed by the lopsidedness of its 8-to-0 win over Texas Southern University (0-7-0).  Texas set a program record for shots (54) and shots on-target (28).

Texas Women Outlast Utah State in Soccer (September 8, 2022)

The #23 University of Texas Longhorns women’s soccer team (4-1-1) defeated the Utah State University Aggies (2-1-3) in a tough fought contest by a final score of 2-to-1.  Texas extends its winning streak to four match (3-0-1). 

Texas’ Lexi Missimo opened the scoring in the 6th minute, converting a penalty kick.  The kick was set-up on a foul by Utah State’s Sammie Murdock in the box.  Missimo's goal was the 30th time that Texas has scored a goal in the opening 10 minutes of a match under head coach Angela Kelly.  The Longhorns are 24-5-1 in those contests.

Texas Fall to No. 1 North Carolina (August 25, 2022)

The University of Texas Longhorn (1-1-0) women’s soccer team showed a gritty defensive side as they faced an offensive onslaught by the #1 University of North Carolina Tar Heals (3-0-0).  North Carolina needed a massive 28 shots to produce a 2-0 win over Texas. 

The match was played before a crowd of 3264, the 8th largest in program history. 

North Carolina is led by head coach Samantha Bohon, a former assistant to Texas’ head coach Angela Kelly when Kelly as at Tennessee.  Kelly is a Tar Heel alumnus, a four-year letter-winner (1991 – 94), and helped UNC to four consecutive national titles.  

Texas Overwhelms Incarnate Word Women’s Soccer (August 12, 2022)

Expectations are high for the 2022 University of Texas Longhorns Women’s soccer program.  And the Longhorns did not disappoint as they routed the University of Incarnate Word Cardinals, 7-0, in an exhibition match. 

The Longhorns are returning 10 starters and 21 letter-winners from last year’s squad.  Returning are six  COVID-era Super Seniors: Savannah Madden, Cameron Brooks, Carlee Allen, Mackenzie McFarlan, Emma Regan  and Madison Hogue.  New to the Texas pitch are eight portal transfers, notably, Jilly Shimkin (Penn State) and Taylor Dellosso (Baylor).   

Texas Tops Air Force, Advances to Super Regional (June 5, 2022)

The University of Texas Longhorns defeated the U.S. Air Force Academy Falcons, 10-1, to capture the NCAA Austin Regional Championship.  The Longhorns were 3-0 in the tournament.  They travel to Greenville to take on East Carolina in the Super Regionals. 

The Falcons made it to the championship game by defeating Louisiana Tech early in the day in the loser’s bracket.  Playing two games on an unusually hot day likely had a toll on Air Force.  Texas defeated Air Force 11-3 in the opening game of Regional play.  

Texas Opens NCAA Regional with Win Over Air Force (June 3, 2022)

The University of Texas Longhorns men’s baseball team decisively defeated the U.S. Air Force Academy Falcons, 11-3, in the first game of the NCAA Austin Regional at Disch-Falk Field.  Texas advances to the second round of the regionals, facing Louisiana Tech. 

Texas starting pitcher Pete Hansen (W, 11-1) earned the win, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits in 6.2 innings.  Hansen walked 2, struck-out 5 and hit 1 batter.  Relief pitcher Marcus Olivarez and Coy Cobb held the Falcons to 1 hit each and no runs.  

Texas’ Pitching Collapses (May 1, 2022)

#10 Texas (31-16, 9-9) lost 10-8 to #8 Oklahoma State (31-13, 13-5) in the final regular season game at Disch-Falk Field.  The Longhorns squander a 7-0 lead, allowing the Cowboys 10 runs in the 7th inning.  

The game had the unusual distinguish of Texas head coach David Pierce becoming a grounds keeper.  OSU starting pitcher Victor Mederos complained of grooming around the mound and Pierce took matters into his own hands.  Pierce’s work didn’t meet Mederos’ requirements and he left the game after an inning’s work.   

Texas Shows Baylor No Mercy (April 22, 2022)

Texas showed no mercy as they defeated Baylor 20-1 on Friday.  Texas sent 40 batters to the plate, and batted around the order in the 4th and 7th innings. 

Texas was led offensively by Trey Faltine with 3 hit in 5 at-bats for 5 RBIs.  Douglas Hodo III also went 3-for-5 for 2 RBIs with a home run and a double.  Ivan Melendez, Silas Ardoin, Kimble Schuessler and Skyler Messinger all homered for the Horns.  

#7 Texas Shuts Out #23 TCU (April 8,2022)

Pete Hansen hurled a complete game shut to lead the Texas Longhorns over the TCU Horned Frog, 2-0. Hansen (W, 6-0)  was near-flawless in the outing, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 12 while walking 1 batter. 

Texas improves its record to 23-9 (4-3 Big 12) while TCU falls to 20-10 (6-4 Big 12). 

TCU starting pitcher Riley Cornelio  (L, 3-2) suffered the loss, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits in 6 innings of work.  Cornelio struck out 6 batters while walking 5.  

Texas Falls to A&M in Slugfest (March 29, 2022)

The #8 University of Texas Longhorns (19-8) fell to the Texas A&M University Aggies (15-9) in a rematch of the old Southwest Conference / Big 12 rivalry.  The Aggies plated 12 runs to the Longhorns 9, with runners scoring in every inning but the seventh. 

Jack Moss led the Aggies batting for the cycle, going 5-for-5 with 5 RBIs, and scoring twice.  However, the highlight of the Aggie evening was Dylan Rock’s grand slam home run in the fourth inning.  Trey Faltine led the Longhorns, notching 2 hits, both home runs, in 4 appearances, with 2 RBIs.  

Day 2 Results of 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays (March 24, 2022)

The first full day of the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, hosted by the University of Texas, concluded on Thursday.  These are some of the results: 

·      Texas State's Alyssa Wilson earned top honors in the University women's hammer throw.

·      Cornell's Beatrice Juskeviciute took the Javelin section of the Heptathlon.

·      Florida's Anna Hall bested all competitors in the heptathlon.

Never Looked Back: Texas Tops Fairfield in NCAA Tourney (March 18, 2022)

The No. 6/7 Texas Longhorn Women's Basketball Team opened the 2022 NCAA Tournament with a lopsided 70-52 first round victory over the Fairfield Stags. The Longhorn’s never trailed and led the Stags by as many as 24 points. 

The No.2-seeded Longhorns (27-6) extend their win streak to 12 games and advance to Sunday's round of 32 where they will take on the No. 7-seeded Utah. 

UT Sends Seniors Off on High Note (March 3, 2022)

Texas’ game against the Oklahoma State University Cowgirls was a game of lasts, and game of firsts. 

It was the last home game three Longhorn seniors, Joanne Allen-Taylor, Lauren Ebo and Audrey Warren. It was also the last regular season basketball game to be played in the Frank Erwin Center.  And it was the first time fans turned out in force this season, 12,506 strong, in response to head coach Vic Schaefer’s personal challenge.  

These distractions aside, Texas (23-6) went on to defeat OSU (8-19) 65-to-50.  Texas extends their win streak to 8 games as they prepare for the Big 12 Championship next week in Kansas City.  

Texas Trounces Rice (February 19, 2022)

The University of Texas Longhorns easily handled the Rice University Owls in the second game of their series by a score of 15-1.   The Longhorns have out-scored the Owls 22-1 thus far this weekend. 

Longhorn starting pitcher Tristan Stevens (1-0) looked stellar in his first outing of the season.  Tristan scattered 4 hits over 6 innings, striking out 3 and walking 2, to earn the win.  A total of 4 Texas pitchers made relief appearances.  

Texas Fades as Baylor Bounces (February 6, 2022)

The Baylor women’s basketball team extended its win streak over the Texas Longhorns to 13 games with a 63-55 victory.  The Longhorns have not won a women’s basketball game against the Bears since February 6, 2017. 

Baylor became the first team in 23 years to beat a top-25 team twice in three days with the win.  The loss was the third straight for Texas as their record falls to 15-6 overall and 5-5 in Big 12 Conference.  

#9 Texas Women Shutdown #25 Kansas State (January 26, 2022)

The #9 University of Texas Longhorn women’s basketball team easily handled the #25 Kansas State University Jayhawks in there most complete home game of the season.  Texas led K-State by as many of 18 points in route to a 66-to-48 victory. 

Texas’ defense was instrumental in the victory.  The Longhorns effectively contained Jayhawk center  Ayoka Lee, holding Lee to just 20 points after a 61-point outing against Oklahoma.   Lee was 9-for-20 from the floor with 11 rebounds. 

#1 Texas Shuts Out Texas State (January 23, 2022)

The top ranked University of Texas Longhorns (1-0) women’s tennis team dropped just 20 games in 8 matches to sweep the Texas State University Bobcats (0-2).  The closest match was an unfinished doubles match that went 4-3.  Texas claimed a 1-0 lead by taking the doubles point.  Texas swept the single matches in straight sets.

Texas Assembles Complete Game Over West Virginia, January 15, 2022

The University of Texas Longhorns women’s basketball team easily handled the University of West Virginia Mountaineers, winning 73-to-57.  The Longhorns led the entire game, after a slow start in the first period. 

Texas coach Vic Schaefer promised changes in the starting line-up after an embarrassing loss to Kansas. “The way some players are playing, it’s not acceptable,” he said.  It came as no surprise that Audrey Warren started the game on the bench.  

Turnovers Doom Texas Women, January 12, 2022

The No. 13 University of Texas Longhorns (11-3, 1-2 Conference) turned the ball over a season-high 23 times in a 70-66 overtime loss to the Kansas University Jayhawks (11-1, 2-1 Conference).  It was the second consecutive home-court conference loss In for the Longhorns.

The victory was only Kansas’ second in 19 meetings and was the first in Austin since 2012.  

Texas Tech Embarrasses No. 9 Texas, January 5, 2022

The No. 9 University of Texas Longhorns women’s basketball (10-2, 1-1) suffered a humbling loss to Texas Tech University Red Raider, 74-61.  Texas led only in the first minute of play.  The loss was the Longhorns’ first at home this season. 

“That’s probably as humbling a loss I’ve had since UConn,” said University of Texas women’s basketball coach Vic Schaefer. “At least that night, I got beat by the best team in the history of women’s college basketball.”

TCU Tops Texas in Big 12 Championship, November 7, 2021

The University of Texas Longhorns (#2 seed) had everything on their side as they took on the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs (#1 seed) in the Big 12 women’s soccer Championship match.  Texas almost held their poker long enough to win the Big 12 Championship, but they broke a smile, and then lost to TCU by a score of 2-to-1.

The University of Texas Longhorns (#2 seed) defeated the University of West Virginia Mountaineers (#6 seed) in the semi-finals of the Big 12 women’s soccer championship on a chilly night at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.  The teams played to a scoreless draw after regulation play and two overtime periods.  The match was settled on overtime penalty kicks, with Texas advancing 4-3.

The University of Texas Longhorns women’s soccer team exploded with five goals  to defeat the University of Oklahoma Sooners in the first round of the Big 12 Championship by a 5-2 score.  Texas plays West Virginia in the Championship’s semifinals. Trinity Byars led Texas with a hat trick and Mackenzie McFarland added a brace.  Oklahoma’s goal came from Bailey Wesco and Jasimine Richards.

University of Texas freshman forward Trinity Byars scored her first collegiate brace (two goals) to lead the University of Texas Longhorns  (3-2-2) to a 2-1 double overtime victory over the Samford University Bulldogs (3-3-2).  Byars scored the game winning goal for her first “golden goal.” The victory was the 300th all-time in Texas’ soccer program history. The Longhorns overall record now stands at 300-202-55 (.588).  

Ducks Edge Longhorns in Tight Contest, September 9, 2021

The University of Oregon Ducks (3-0-2) edged the University of Texas Longhorns (1-3-2) in a tight contest Thursday night at Mike A. Myers Stadium.  Oregon found the back of the net with three minutes remaining in the match to win 1-0.  The Ducks lead the Longhorns all-time in the series, 2-0-0. Texas out-shot Oregon by an 11-10 margin, while the Ducks led 3-2 in shots on goal. 

Texas Tops New Mexico in One-sided Affair, September 2, 2021

The University of Texas Longhorn (1-2-1) women soccer team soundly defeated the New Mexico State Aggies (3-1) by a score of 4-to-0.   It was the first meeting of the teams.  The Aggies enter the match undefeated while the Longhorn were looking for their first win of the season. The Texas team is a blend of experience and youth.  Texas’ starting roster led by five starting seniors, including gold medal winning Canadian Julia Grosso, but also included five freshmen.
