#14 Texas Women’s Soccer Fall in Last Second

A storybook ending for one is a nightmare for another.  Hannah Anderson’s goal in the final second of play gave the Texas Tech Red Raiders a 2-to-1 win over the #14 University of Texas Longhorns.

The loss was Texas first regular season Big 12 Conference loss since November 6, 2020.

“I knew it was going to be a battle; it always is against Texas Tech. It wasn’t a great way to end a match at home,” said Texas head coach Angela Kelly

Tech’s Ashleigh Williams opened the scoring in the 12th minute of play.  The goal ended the Longhorn’s streak of consecutive minutes played without allowing a goal at 597 minutes and 38 seconds.

Texas’ goalkeeper Mia Justus was forced from the game in the 29th minute when Williams stepped beneath her as she came down with the ball, forcing a hard landing on the pitch.  Megan Hogate replace Justus.

Trinity Byars even the score in the 38th minute on a goal set-up by Lauren Lapomarda and Avery Clark. The goal was Byars’ 40th career goal , becoming the third Longhorn to achieve the feat.
