LSU Best Texas Women’s Soccer

The Louisiana State University Tigers defeated the University of Texas Longhorns in women’s soccer, 3-to-1, giving the Longhorns a taste what is to come in SEC.

Texas had the enthusiasm, and the opportunities, but appeared to lack the discipline.  The Longhorns out-shot LSU 18-to12 in total, but were even with shots-on-target at seven each.  Texas also had the advantage on corner kicks, 8-to-4, but also committed more fouls (14-to-10).  Each team was shown a yellow card.

The Tiger’s Taylor Dobles opened the scoring in the 29th minute on the set-up by Rammie Noel and Ava Galligan.  LSU doubled their lead on Ida Hermannsdottir’s penalty kick conversion ten minutes later.  Doble added a second, unassisted, goal in the closing seconds of the first half, giving the Longhorn much to ponder at the intermission.

The Longhorns returned to the pitch with a renewed vigor, producing their only goal in the 52nd minute off the foot of Avery Clark.  The goal was Clark’s first of the season.

LSU defense hunkered down for the remainder of the match, leaving the final score at 3-to-1.

“I’m just really disappointed. I thought we battled the second half, but there was a momentum stretch there late in the first half that was tough to battle through,” said Texas women’s head coach Angela Kelly.  “But, once again, every match is going to be an experience to learn, and we are for sure going to learn off this match.”
