Chemistry Gels as Texas Tops UTA

The University of Texas Longhorns (3-and-0) revealed the possibilities of this season’s team in a 110-to-64 drubbing on the University of Texas at Arlington Mavericks (0-and-3).

“Really please on how we played from a chemistry standpoint.  I though we made some steps tonight,” said Texas head coach Vic Schaefer.  “Just though we, hopefully, turned the corner there a little bit, and shared the ball.”

Texas’ Taylor Jones led all players with 21 points.  Rori Harmon followed with 20 points and seven assists.  Four other Longhorns scored in double-digit and 10 of 11 players got themselves onto the scoresheet.

Gia Adams led UTA with 20 points and four rebounds.  Avery Brittingham added 12 points, five rebounds, and five assists.

The Longhorns dominated the Mavericks, amassing 30 assists, out-scoring in the paint 80-to-36, out-rebounding 57-to-27, and finished second-chance points 31-7.  Texas also forced 21 turnovers and committed 11 steals.

As good as the win was, there is room for improvement, with Texas commiting 12 turnovers and allowing nine steals.

“I’m disappointed in us defensively,” said Schaefer.  “Most every time out we talked about defense.  I just wasn’t real pleased with what we were doing there.”

While team hit 56% from the field and 39% from distance, they converted only 36% of the chances from the charity stripe.
