Texas Fall to No. 1 North Carolina

The University of Texas Longhorn (1-1-0) women’s soccer team showed a gritty defensive side as they faced an offensive onslaught by the #1 University of North Carolina Tar Heals (3-0-0).  North Carolina needed a massive 28 shots to produce a 2-0 win over Texas. 

The match was played before a crowd of 3264, the 8th largest in program history, 

North Carolina is led by head coach Samantha Bohon, a former assistant to Texas’ head coach Angela Kelly when Kelly as at Tennessee.  Kelly is a Tar Heel alumnus, a four-year letter-winner (1991 – 94), and helped UNC to four consecutive national titles. 

The teams took a 0-0 draw into the locker room at half time.  North Carolina broke the stalemate in the 58th minute on a goal by Avery Patterson, assisted by Julia Dorsey and Sam Meza.  Patterson double the Tar Heal’s advantage in the 78th minute, assisted by Kate Faasse. 

North Carolina’s offensive juggernaut was enough to  quelch any Texas offense.   The Longhorns produced only eight total shots, two on-target. 

Texas’ record against North Carolina falls to 0-6-1.  The Longhorns record against No. 1 teams is 0-7-0.
