Texas Takes SF Austin in Record Setting Affair

The #17 Texas Longhorns routed the Stephen F Austin Woodchoppers by a final score of 7-to-0.  The win was the most lopsided in the series history.  The only Texas player to stay on the pitch longer than 60 minutes was goalkeeper Mia Justus.

The Longhorns were led by Lexi Missimo with three goals and four assist.  Also finding the back of the net were Trinity Byars, Avery Clark, Lauren Lapomarda, Jilly Shimkin and Arianna Brothers.

Lapomarda’s goal was the first for the senior defender.  Commenting on the moment she said: “(It) was just a very special moment and I’m grateful to be able to do it with my teammates. We — the outside backs — have been really working on getting up (in the attacking third) and being able to help the offensive attack. (It) was just really special. That’s all I can say.”

Commenting on the moment, Texas head coach Angel Kelly said, “to be able to score your first collegiate goal is always an exciting night.”  She went on to say,  “overall, I was really pleased with the response in the second half and credit SFA. We knew they were going to battle, and I thought we moved the ball better in the second half.”

The night was one of fallen records:

·      Texas junior midfielder Lexi Missimo tied the program record with 10 points on the evening after finishing the match with four assists and three goals.  Missimo becomes the first student-athlete to accomplish the feat since Carol Finch (four goals, two assists) did so against Pittsburgh on September 1, 1996.

·      Lexi Missimo also recorded her third career four-assist match and second this season. No other student-athlete in program history has recorded more than one.

·      In just seven matches this season, Lexi Missimo has already tied the program’s single-season assist record with 15.  Missimo set the record last season.

·      Trinity Byars joined Kelly McDonald as the only student-athletes in program history to record three seasons with 10-or-more goals with her first-half goal at the 13-minute mark.  McDonald accomplished the feat in 2001 (10), 2002 (14) and 2003 (14).  Byars has done so in 2021 (12), 2022 (17) and 2023 (10).

·      Lexi Missimo tied Kelsey Carpenter (2006) for the most points by a junior student-athlete in a single season with 35 with her 10-point performance on the evening.
