Vinales Shocks with Record Pole at COTA, Rookie Acosta Stuns (April 13, 2024)

Aprilia's Maverick Vinales defied expectations to secure a record-breaking pole position at the 2024 MotoGP Grand Prix of the Americas. The Spaniard, who has shown strong pace throughout practice, delivered a blistering 2:00.0 lap early in qualifying, a first for the Circuit of the Americas.

The surprise didn't end there. Red Bull KTM rookie Pedro Acosta, fresh off a scorching performance in FP3, solidified his top KTM status by grabbing a sensational second place on the grid. This marks a remarkable debut for the young rider, placing him alongside a seasoned veteran.

Championship leader Jorge Martin's day took a sour turn with two separate crashes. Despite his troubles, Martin managed to salvage a fourth-row starting position. Reigning champion Francesco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini will line up alongside him, aiming to salvage some points after a challenging qualifying session for Ducati.

Rounding out the front row is the ever-present Marc Marquez on his Honda. The eight-time COTA victor will launch his podium challenge from third, setting the stage for a potentially thrilling battle at the front. With an unpredictable grid and hungry rookies, the 2024 MotoGP race at COTA promises fireworks.
