Aron Canet secured a dramatic pole position for the 2024 Moto2 Grand Prix of the Americas, held at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) on April 13th. The championship leader, fresh off a win in Portimao, showed his dominance throughout qualifying.

A blustery COTA greeted riders for Q2, but Canet remained unfazed. He traded top spot with Speed Up's Fermin Aldeguer, who had earlier smashed the old lap record in a session several seconds faster than the previous best.

With the clock winding down, Canet delivered a masterclass. He carved out a blistering 2:07.631s on his final lap, pushing Aldeguer back to second by a mere 0.109 seconds. This late surge secured Canet his second pole position of the season, putting him in prime position to extend his championship lead.

Aldeguer, though disappointed to miss out on pole, can take heart in his strong performance. The battle for the front row remained tight, with Alonso Lopez securing an impressive third on the Boscoscuro machine. Hometown favorite Joe Roberts (American Racing Team) will start from fifth, eager to impress the American crowd in Sunday's race.
