Alonso Takes his First Moto3 Pole at the Americas (April 13, 2024)
David Alonso of the CFMoto Valresa Aspar Team stole the show in qualifying for the 2024 Moto3 Grand Prix of the Americas, held on April 13th. This marked Alonso's first-ever pole position in the lightweight class.
Alonso had been dominant throughout the practice sessions on Friday, setting the fastest times in both. He carried that momentum into qualifying, putting in a blistering lap that held strong until the very end.m.
There was a late challenge from Red Bull KTM Ajo's Jose Antonio Rueda, who pushed Alonso all the way. The gap between the two was a mere 0.017 seconds, with Rueda ultimately settling for second on the grid.
Another late surge came from Daniel Holgado of Red Bull GasGas Tech3. He secured the third and final spot on the front row, showcasing the competitiveness at the top of the Moto3 field.
Alonso's impressive performance set the stage for an exciting race, and while Rueda unfortunately had to withdraw due to appendicitis, the Spaniard was able to convert his pole position into a race victory – his first of the 2024 season.
