#12 Texas Overwhelms Texas Southern

It may have looked like an extended batting practice, but it was actually the #12 Texas Longhorns (13-6) taking on the Texas Southern Tigers (2-11).  The Longhorns won by an impressive score of 17-3.

Starting Texas pitcher Matt Whelan (2-0) had a good outing and earned the win.  The right-handed pitcher worked out of a slight jam in the second inning, and went on to complete 4 innings.  Whelan gave up 3 hits and 1 earned run.

The player of the evening was back-up Longhorn catcher Caston Peter.  Peter doubled and homered in 3 at bats, drove in 5 runs, and scored twice against Texas Southern.  What a night!

Shortstop Masen Hibbeler was perfect at the plate, going 4 for 4, with 2 RBIs and three runs.  His teammate, hot-box defender Ryan Reynolds also went for a perfect 3 for 3 and scored twice.

One of the few highlights for Texas Southern was a triple to the left-center gap by center fielder Ryan Diaz.

Starting Tiger pitcher Alex Carrillo (1-4) was assigned the loss.
