Bold Give Thompson Second Win as Head Coach

It had only been two weeks since the Austin Bold faced the New Mexico United, but an entirely different Bold team appeared on the pitch.  Austin surprised New Mexico by playing a highly competitive match, giving new head coach Ryan Thompson his second career victory with a 1-0 win.  Thompson, previously the goalkeeper coach, assumed his new duties on September 4.

Statistically New Mexico controlled most of the match, leading in possession (57% to 43%), duel success (56% to 44%) interceptions (12 to 8) and corners (4 to 2).  But Austin led in the most important categories  of shots (12 to 7), shots on target (5 to 2) and goals.

Both teams played with passion, drawing a total of 8 yellow cards, 5 for the Bold.  The match’s only score came from a yellow card shown to Micheal Azira after a  foul on Beto Avila in the penalty box.  Bold captain Xavier Baez converted the penalty shot.
