Late Express Rally Falls Short

Rehabbing Major League made their presence felt as the Sugar Land Skeeters topped the Round Rock Express by a score of 4-2.  Jason Castro and Taylor Jones of Houston Astros each drove in a run and drew a total of 5 walks for the Skeeters, while Andy Ibanez of the Texas Rangers launched a 2-run home run for the Express.

Sugar Land opened the scoring the second inning, starting with a Ronnie Dawson walk.  Dawson stole second base and advance to third on a throwing error by catcher Jack Kruger.  Dawson later scored on a Taylor Jones single.

The Skeeters added to their lead in the fourth inning, beginning with a double by Jeremy Pena.  A pass ball by catcher Jack Kruger moved Pena to third base, and a walk to Taylor Jones put runners at the corners.  Jason Castro’s single scored Pena and moved Jones to second base.  Jones scored on a Jacob Wilson single to left field.

The visitors capped the scoring in the fifth inning with a solo home run by J.J. Matijevic.

Round Rock attempted a rally in the seventh inning, starting with a Josh Jung single, followed by a Ibanez’ homer.  The rally fizzled with strikeouts by Curtis Terry, Elier Hernandez and Jack Kruger.

Express starting pitcher Tyson Miller (3-3) suffered the loss, offering a mixed performance.  Miller allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 3 hitting, but walked 6 and struck out 5 batters.

The Skeeter’s Hunter Brown (5-0) earned the win, holding the Express to 2 runs on 5 hits in 6.1 innings.  Brown struck out 6 and walked 1 batter.
