Pozo Leads Express over Chihuahuas

Yohel Pozo led the Round Rock Express with two, two-run homer runs to defeat the El Paso Chihuahuas.  Pozo’s double-double came on the eve of his nuptials.

Pozo’s first four-bagger came in the second inning with Curtis Terry on base.  Terry lined a single to left field and advanced to second base on a wild pitch by El Paso pitcher Evan Miller.

Round Rock added a run in the third inning.  El Paso tried to shut down the Express rally by converting a double play with one out and runners on the corners.  But John Hicks beat the throw to first base allowing Leody Taveras to score from third base.

Pozo’s second homer came in the fourth inning after Andy Ibanez’s double.  Pozo’s shot over the left field wall was his seventh round-tripper of the season.

Michael Cantu scored El Paso’s only runs of the game on a two-run shot that barely topped the center field wall.  Cantu’s homer followed Gosuke Katoh’s double.

Express starting pitcher Wase LeBlanc (W, 1-0) earned the win, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits in 6 innings pitched. Relief pitcher Luis Ortiz (H, 2) was assigned the hold and Jimmy Herget (S, 2) the save.

Chihuahua starting pitcher Evan Miller (L, 1-1) endured the loss.  Evan lasted only 2.2 innings, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 2 hits.  El Paso sent four relief pitchers to the mound trying to avert the loss.
