Iowa Unleashes Against Michigan

The Iowa Hawkeyes took the first game of a double header against the Michigan Wolverines, 8-3.  The Hawkeyes evened the series 1-1 with the win. 

Iowa’s Peyton Williams opened the scoring in the first inning with a double to left center field to score Izaya Fullard.  Williams earned his second RBI of the game in the third inning on a groundout that, again, scored Fullard. 

Michigan retaliated in the fourth inning with 3 runs.  Riley Bertram singled home Christian Molfetta.  Logan Pollack scored on a wild pitch and Bertram crossed the plate on a bases-loaded walk. 

Iowa stormed back in the next inning with 5 runs.  Austin Martin scored on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch.  Zeb Adreon and Peyton William crossed the plate on a double to center field by Brayden Frazier.  And Matthew Sosa scored on a throwing error by Michigan’s third baseman Christian Molfetta. 

The Hawkeyes added a final run in the sixth inning on a single by Sosa, scoring  Williams. 

Iowa’s Austin Martin led the team in the batter’s box with 2 hits in 4 appearances. The Wolverines were led offensively by Logan Pollack with 2 hits in 3 at-bats. 

Iowa side-arm pitcher Dylan Nedved (1-0) earned the win in 2 innings of relief.  Nedved pitched  2 innings of scoreless baseball, allowing 1 hit.  Starting pitcher Drew Irvine when 3 innings, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits, walked and struck out 4.   

Michigan starting pitcher Cameron Weston (0-1) suffered the loss.  Weston allowed 4 runs on 6 hits, 4 walks and 3 strike outs in 4.1 innings.  Relief pitcher Angelo Smith faced only 2 batters, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 1 hit and walked 1.  Joe Pace and Keaton Carattini each allowed 1 run in relief.
