Express Top Isotopes in Series Opener

The Round Rock Express (9-4) return to Dell Diamond a new team, having since won 9 of the last 10 game after dropping their first three games of the season.  Round Rock’s 3-2 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes (5-8) extends their winning streak to five games. 

A.J. Alexy looked solid starting on the mound, allowing 1 run on 2 hits, striking out 7 in 5 innings.  The win went to reliever Ryder Ryan (W, 1-1) who gave up 1 run on 2 hits in 2 innings.  Jesus Tinoco earned the save. 

Albuquerque starting pitcher Dillon Overton went 6 innings, giving up 1 run on 4 hits for no decision.  Jake Bird (L, 0-1, BS, 1) suffered the loss and the blown save, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. 

Round Rock plated the first run in the second inning on Sherten Apostel’s solo home run.  Albuquerque counter in the fifth with Taylor Snyder’s solo blast over the left field wall.  The Isotopes took the lead in the seventh inning on Carlos Perez’s one-run home run. 

The Express opened their half of the seventh with a pair of singles by Sherten Apostel and Davis Wendzel. Yohel Poso’s single to left field scored Apostel and advanced Wendzel to second base.  Nick Tanielu reached base on a fielder’s choice that forced-out Pozo, but moved Wendzel to third.  With runners on the corners, Bubba Thompson’s first pitch bunt to pitcher Jake Bird scored Wendzel, advanced Tanielu to second, and put Thompson on first.
