Underdogs Grab at Second Chance

The eight teams that failed to advance in the Winners Bracket of the AVP Austin Open got a second chance in day 2 of the double-elimination tournament.  Surprising, most of the underdogs prevailed. 

The #15 seed team of Aurora Davis and Teegan Van Gunst topped the #10 seed team of Karolina Marciniak and Megan Rice.  The teams traded the first two sets, 21-14, before Davis and  Van Gunst went on to take the rubber set, 15-11. 

Toni Rodriguez and Savannah Simo (#14) easily handled Karissa Cook and Emily Hartong, 21-18, 21-16. 

Carly Skjodt and Geena Urango (#16) came from behind to defeat the team of Kimberly Hildreth and Katie Spieler (#9) in three sets, 14-21, 21-16, 15-10. 

And Carly Kan and Kaitlyn Leary (#13) were the only team not to defeat the higher seed in the Losers Bracket.  Kan and Leary fell to Jessica Gaffney and Molly Turner in straight sets, 21-14, 21-17.
