River Cats Down Express in Series Opener

The Round Rock Express (50-44) fell to the Sacramento River (41-53) by a final score of 5-to-1. The loss ended Round Rock’s four-game winning streak, and came on the heels of a three-game sweep of the Las Vegas Aviators. 

Round Rock starter Cole Winn (6-2) endured the loss,  allowing three runs on six hits, four walks and three strikeouts in 2.1 innings. Sacramento Tristan Beck (4-6) earned the win, allowing one run allowed (unearned), on three hits and four strikeouts in six innings of work. 

Sacramento opened the scoring in the first inning.  Austin Dean’s single to center field plated Jason Krizan who reached on a double. 

The River Cats added to their lead in third inning. Sacramento loaded the bases on singles to Willie Calhoun and Jason Vosler, and a walk to Isan Diaz.  Andrew Knapp’s double brought home Calhoun and Vosler. 

Sacramento added to their margin with solo home runs by Krizan in the fourth inning, and by Diaz in the fifth. 

Round Rock found the scoreboard in the sixth inning on J.P. Martinez’s double, scoring Bubba Thompson. Thompson reached base on a fielding error by shortstop Arqu9medes Gamboa. 

Sacramento was led offensively by Krizan, Calhoun and Knapp, each with two hits.  Steele Walker and Josh Sale also notched two hits each for Round Rock.
