Loggerheads Take Premier Rugby Men’s Championship

The Loggerheads defeated the Headliners in the Premier Rugby Sevens (PR7s) Men’s Championship finals by a score of 32-to-22.  The match was not as close as the score appears, as the Headliners scored their final try in the closing seconds as the Loggerheads began the celebrations.

The Loggerhead dominate the tournament with four players scoring two tries in two Championship matches. Brock Ian Gallagher, Christian du Toit, Derek Adams, and Dominick Iacovino.

Brock Ian Gallagher took home the MVP with an outstanding performance in the final, scoring off one turnover and forcing another during the 26-0 mid-game run. “This time last year, I quit. I gave up rugby. I was nothing,” said Gallagher. “And then I came back here in January, thanks to the (event sponsors) Rhinos. They’re the reason I’m here.”

“Words can’t even describe,” added an emotional Derek Adams, whose seven tries on the season tie for the league lead. “I don’t have my mom here. She passed away when I was young and I said I would promise to become a professional athlete. I started playing rugby last year, I’ve been grinding it, and here I am, first year playing.”

The Loggerheads advanced to the finals by defeating the Experts, 19-12, in the semi-final contest.  The Headliners earned a seat in the finals in a one-sided win over the, 31-5.

The Experts and the Loonies competed in the consolation round.  The Experts edged the Loonies by a score of 31-24.
