Austin Gambler Rider Takes Cedar Park Chute Out

PBR’s Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour (PWVT) came to the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park for two nights of the finest in bull riding in the Cedar Park Chute Out.  The began in 2014 as the sport’s premier expansion series, featuring young, emerging bull riding talent alongside some of the superstars of the sport.

Cedar Park is one of 25 cities on this year’s tour, including the Velocity Tour Finals in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Forty riders competed in this weekend’s event, but only 14 stayed on the bull long enough to score points and advance in the competition.

Griffin Smeltzer was the clear winner of the Cedar Park Chute Out with an aggregate score of 173.5 points. Smeltzer, the Claresholm, Alberta native, may have had a home town advantage, as he also riders for the Austin Gamblers in the PBR Team competition.  Smeltzer success rode Bad Deal on his second bull of the evening, and then Orca in the final ride.

Junio Quaresima (Meridiano, Brazil) finished second with an aggregate score of 171.  Quaresima successfully rode Go Blue and Simp in the first two rounds, but was not able to stay atop of Storm Trooper in his last ride.

Alex Cerqueira (Iguatemi, Brazil) rounded out the podium with 170 aggregate points.  Cerqueira lost to Bank Roll in Round 1, but had the better of Smooth Whiskey and Archie in his two final rides.
