#1 LSU Tops KSU in Round Rock Classic Opener

The #1 Louisiana State University (LSU) Tigers kicked off the fourth annual Round Rock Baseball Classic with an explosive 7-to-3 win over the Kansas State University (KSU) Wildcats.  The Tiger improved their record to 5-and-0, while the Wildcats fall to 5-and-1. 

LSU pitching sensation Paul Skenes (W, 2-0) earned the win, allowing just one run on two hits in six innings on the mound.  Skenes struck-out 11 batters and walked two.  Ty Floyd (S, 1) went the distance in relief, giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits in three innings of work.  Floyd struck out five and walked one. 

Kansas State starter Owen Boerema looked solid in 4.1 innings of work, allowing one run on one hit, and striking out seven.  Relief pitcher Ty Ruhl (L, 0-1) suffered the brunt of the LSU attack, allowing two runs in the sixth inning and four runs in the seventh inning, on six hits. 

 The Tigers were led offensively by Gavin Dugans and Dylan Crews, each going 2-for-4 at the plate.  Crews tallied one RBI and score twice, and Dugas drove home one run and scored another.  Jared Jones drove home Dugan and Crews on his double. LSU generated ten hits in the contest. 

The Wildcats were collectively held to three runs (two earned) on four hits.  Kaelen Culpepper plated KSU’s first run on first inning single, bringing home Brendan Jones.  Roberto Pena homered in the seventh inning.  And Cole Johnson reached on a fielding error, scoring Nick Goodwin on the error.
