Iowa Slaps Down #1 LSU

The University of Iowa Hawkeyes (4-1) held the #1 Louisiana State University Tigers (5-1) to just four hits in route to a 12-to-4 rout. 

Iowa relief pitcher Jared Simpson (W, 1-0) earned the win, holding LSU to two runs on three hits in 4.2 innings on the mound.  Simpson struck out eight, walked one and hit three batters.  LSU starter Riley Cooper went home with the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits in three innings.  The Tigers send three relief pitchers to the rubber, collective allowing seven additional runs on nine hits

Iowa clean-up hitter Brennen Dorighi was spectacular at the plate, going 3-for-5 with five RBIs and scoring twice.  Hawkeye leadoff hitter also went 3-for-5.  Four additional teammates tallied two hits in the effort. 

LSU was led by  centerfielder Dylan Crews, notching two hits in three appearances, and drawing two walks.
