Marco Bezzecchi Lead Moto3 Riders Day 1

The Moto3 riders took to the Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas, for the first practice session of the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas on Friday, April 14th, 2023. The session saw plenty of action and some surprises, with a few riders showing impressive pace and others struggling to find the sweet spot.

At the top of the timesheets was Italian rider Marco Bezzecchi, who set the fastest time of the session with a 2:13.127. Bezzecchi, who currently sits third in the
championship standings, was looking strong and consistent throughout the
session and will be hoping to carry that form into qualifying and the race.

Behind Bezzecchi was Spanish rider Sergio Garcia, who was just 0.037s behind the Italian. Garcia, who won the opening race of the season in Qatar, was showing good speed and
looks to be a strong contender for the weekend.

Third fastest was Argentine rider Gabriel Rodrigo, who was just 0.067s off Bezzecchi’s pace.
Rodrigo, who had a difficult start to the season with two retirements in the
opening two races, will be pleased to be showing some pace and will be hoping
to build on that throughout the weekend.

Other notable performances in the session came from Japanese rider Ayumu Sasaki, who was fourth fastest, and British rider John McPhee, who was fifth fastest. Sasaki, who
currently sits fourth in the championship standings, was showing good pace and
consistency, while McPhee was looking strong and confident on the track.

Overall, the first practice session in Austin was a good indication of what’s to come for the rest of the weekend. With plenty of action and surprises, it’s sure to be an
exciting and unpredictable Moto3 race come Sunday.
