Austin FC Shuts Down Houston Dynamo

Austin FC’s trashing of FC Dallas was no fluke.  The Verde & Black maintained the momentum and soundly defeated the Houston Dynamo, 3-to-nil.  The victory effectively clinches Austin defense of the 2023 Copa Tejas cup.

“The result of Wednesday night (game against Dallas) was validated with a very strong performance tonight.  I think the guys performed extremely well.  Two shut-out wins at home against your in-state rivals certainly answers some questions,” said Austin FC head coach Josh Wolff.

Ethan Finlay opened the scoring for Austin FC in the first half, as he did in Wednesday’s win over Dallas.   Finlay collected Sebastian Driussi’s deflected shot and found the back of the net at the 22-minute mark.

Driussi found himself in the middle of things again in the 32nd minute.  His crossing pass across the face ofgoal found Gyasi Zardes who headed in to double Austin’s lead.

Julio Cascante added the match’s final goal in the 50th minute, heading a cross from Dani Pereira, for his second goal of the season.

All three of the goals came on headers, leading Wolff to say “Set pieces have been very strong for us over the past couple months.”
