Round Rock Best Sacramento with Walk Off

The Round Rock Express (44-30) topped the Sacramento River Cats (34-40) on Jonathan Ornelas’ run-scoring double in the ninth inning.  Elier Hernandez extended his hitting streak to 26 games, the longest streak in professional baseball this season.

The last pitchers on the mound earned the final credits.  Express reliever Jonathan Hernandez (W, 1-0) earned the win, tossing a scoreless ninth inning, giving up one hit and a walk.  River Cats reliefer Joey Marciano (L, 4-3) endured the loss in 0.2 innings on the mound, allowing one run on two hits.

Both teams plated runners in the opening inning.  Sacramento’s came on Joey Bart’s ground-out, scoring Brett Wisely.  Wisely reached base on a walk.  Round Rock came on Blaine Crim bases-load ground-out double play, scoring Bubba Thompson.  Thompson reached base on a single.

Sacramento took the lead in the fifth starting with walks to Jacob Nottingham and Clint Coulter.  Will Wilson’s single scored Nottingham.  A walk to Dalton Guthrie loaded the bases.  Joey Bart’s single brought home Colter, and Wilson came home on a walk to Armando Alvarez.

The Express closed the gap with Dio Arias triple in the sixth inning, scoring Sandro Fabian.  Arias later scored on a wild pitch.

Round Rock tied the game with Fabian’s eighth inning home run.
