Long Ball Lifts Sugar Land over Round Rock

The Sugar Land Space Cowboys leveraged the long ball to defeat the Round Rock Express by a score of 9-to-5.  Three Space Cowboy batters went yard and one tripled.  Sugar Land evens the series at one game each.

J.J. Matijevic’s first inning homer capped a two-run opening for Sugar Land.  Marty Costes’ triple scored the first of two runs in the third inning for the visitors.

Round Rock scratched back in the bottom of the fourth inning when Sam Huff crossed the plate on Jonathan Ornelas’ sacrifice fly.

The teams tallied solo home runs in the fifth inning, starting with Jon Singleton’s blast to right field for Sugar Land, followed by Sandro Fabian’s and Davis Wendzel’s efforts for Round Rock.

The Space Cowboys iced the game with a four-run seventh inning.  Shay Whitcomb’s long ball scored Marty Costes and Jon Singleton, and Pedro Leon’s single brought home J.J. Matijevic.

The Express attempted a ninth inning comeback, but the effort fizzled after Justin Foscue’s two-run double.

Jon Singleton led the Space Cowboys, going 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs, while scoring twice.  Sam Huff was perfect at the plate for Round Rock, getting three hits in as many appearances, and drawing two walks.
