Clean Execution Eludes Houston Dynamo 2 in Loss to Austin FC II

The Houston Dynamo 2 could not convert on numerous chances and fell to the Austin FC II, 3-to-0 in their MLSNextPro meeting.  Houston could have easily changed the tenor of the match if they executed on just one of their early set-play chances.

Austin took the lead with CJ Fodrey’s score in the 44th minute of the first half.  Austin came out hot in the second, scoring in the 56th minute off the foot of Sebastien Pineau.  The home team iced the match in the 79thminute when Christo Vela found the back of the net.

Both teams were evenly matched statistically, with Houston being slightly more aggressive in tackles (7-to-4), clearances (16-to-5) and fouls (20-to-16).  This aggressiveness came to a head in the 82nd minute when Houston’s Charles Auguste was shown a red card for violent conduct.  This conduct precipitated a scuffle, resulting in Austin’s CJ Fodrey and Salvatore Mazaferro being shown yellow cards.  Auguste is on loan to the Dynamo II from the parent organization, the Houston Dynamo.

Damian Las earned the clean sheet, successfully facing all three shots-on-target from Houston.  Andrew Pannenberg endured loss for Houston, allowing three goals against eight shots-on-target.
