Comeback for the Record Book: Texas State over Nevada

Texas State Bobcats overcame a 17-to-0 deficit at halftime to defeat the Nevada Wolf Pack 35-to-24.   The comeback was the biggest in Texas State’s FBS history, and the team is off to its best start since in ten years.

Texas State was led by Ismail Mahdi, running for a career high 216 yards on 21 carriers, including two touchdowns.  Quarterback TJ Finley completed 25 of 31 passing attempts for 295 yards.  His favorite targets were Kole Wilson (4 receptions, 93 yards, 1 TD) and Joey Hobert (9 receptions, 90 yards, 1 TD).  Quarterback Malik Hornsby, sometime running back, had one carry for 13 yards and a touchdown.

The Bobcats finished with 276 rushing yard and 574 all-purpose yards.  They scored touchdowns on five of its seven second half drives.

Defensively Texas State was led by Brian Holloway with 11 tackles (6 solo, 5 assisted), Dan Foster with eight tackles (7 solo, 1 assisted) and Shawn Holton with 7 tackles (5 solo, 2 assisted).  Tavian Coleman tallied the team’s only sack.  The defense held Nevada to 159 rushing yard (4.3 yards / carry) and 194 passing yards (5.9 yards / attempt), and snared one interception.

“Great resiliency, great grit in the second half,” Bobcats coach G.J. Kinne said. “There was no panic at all the whole game.  It was just: when is it going to happen, and if we had enough time at the end.”

“We came out and weren’t ready to play, and that’s on me, said Kinne.  “We just as a coaching staff talked to them about, on offense, score every time you get the ball. We’re going to get so many possessions in the second half. We’ve got to score every time we get it.”
