Austin Comes from Behind for Season’s First Win
March 31, 2024The Austin FC dominated the FC Dallas for the first 80 minutes of their match, decisively earning a 2-to-1 win for their first victory of the season.
Austin controlled nearly every aspect of the match: time of possession (65 to 35%), shots (16 to 8) and blocked shots (7 to 1).
Surprisingly, Dallas scored the match’s first goal on Eugene Ansah breakaway in the 51st minute. Austin tied the match three minutes later on Julio Cascante’s header. And Diego Rubio scored the game winning goal in the 70th minute on a textbook perfect pass into the box by Sebastian Driussi.
And the results could have been even more lopsided. Driussi’s shot in the 2nd minute of play just missed the net and Alex Ring hit the post early in the second half.
The only criticism, Austin’s play for the final 10 minutes of the match and the stoppage time was probably overly conservative given the teams earlier dominance.
