42 Second Lapse Cause Stars to Lose

In a span of 42 seconds the Texas went from playing quality hockey to giving up two goals to the San Jose Barracuda, and eventually losing 2-to-1.

Texas owned the first period, out-shooting San Jose 18-to-5, but neither team was able to put a puck past the goal line.

The Barracudas broke a scoreless tie 12 minutes into the middle frame on Oskar Lindblom’s power play goal.  Jordy Bellerive doubled San Jose’s lead less than a minute later.

“In a matter of 30 seconds, it’s [2-0],” said Texas Stars head coach Neil Graham. “Until that point, we were the better of the two teams. We had to recollect ourselves and didn’t really fully regain momentum.”

Texas cranked up the heat, dishing out 16 shots, and tempers flared, in the final period.  Mavrik Bourque eventually found the back of the net with 13 seconds left in the contest after pulling their goalkeeper.

San Jose goaltender Georgi Romanov (7-8-6) stood-up well to the Texas onslaught, earning the win by making 41 saves against 42 shots.

“I was very impressed by him,” said Texas Stars defenseman Gavin Bayreuther. “He’s a big kid, attacks the puck well, but so many of those chances could go either way.”

Texas’ Remi Poirier (14-12-3) suffered the loss, allowing two goal against 31 shots.
