Austin FC, Philadelphia Union Play to Draw

The Philadelphia Union found the back of the net in the 65th minute to tie the match against the Austin FC. The played to a 2-to-2 draw in their first meeting.  Both teams have yet to win this season in three outings. 

Philadelphia’s Daniel Gazdag gave the visitors the lead in the 14th minute, converting on a free kick after Alex Ring fouled Kai Wagner. 

The Union nearly doubled their lead in the 26th minute, but goalkeeper Brad Stuver denied Jack McGlynn’s effort. 

Austin did not generate a shot on goal in first half, but made up for it when Diego Rubio headed Hector Jimenez’s crossing pass to beat Philadelphia goaltender Andre Blake in the 56th minute. 

Austin took the lead two minutes later when Jon Gallagher capitalized on Alex Ring’s setup to push-back the net.  The moment marked the first time this season that Austin has led in a match. 

Philadelphia responded in the 65th minute when Mikael Uhre beat Stuver to tie the match. 

Both teams threatened later in the match but could not convert. 

Stuver denied Philadelphia’s Quinn Sullivan effort in the 67th minute.   Stuver stood strong against Julian Carranza in the 69th minute, and denied Sullivan, again, in the 85th minute. 

Sebastian Driussi tested Philadelphia keeper Blake in the 71st minute but fell short. 

Philadelphia outshot Austin 17-12 and had seven shots on goal to just two by Austin.
