Driussi’s Late Goal Lifts Austin over San Jose

Sebastian Driussi scored in the 11th minute of second-half stoppage time to lift the Austin FC to a wild 4-3 win over the San Jose Earthquakes. The goal was the latest in a match in club history.

San Jose looked to be the underdog the entire match, always on their heels as Austin controlled the pace.  It was surprise when the Earthquakes jump to a 2-to-0 lead on goals by Paul Marie in the 20th minute and by Jeremy Ebobisse in the 58th.

The tide began to turn when San Jose’s Carlos Gruezo fouled Diego Rubio in the box.  Designated penalty kicker Driussi proceeded to bury the kick to bring Austin within one goal.

The momentum shift was palpable.  It took Austin less five minutes to first tie the match, off the foot of Jader Obrian, and then take the lead, with Guilherme Biro’s goal.  Both goals were unassisted.

The Earthquake appeared to squash Austin’s comeback by tying the game in the 74th minute off the foot of Amahl Pellegrino.

San Jose appear satisfied to play out the clock for a draw, but not Austin.  The home team continues to press until Driussi scored for the second time in the 101st minute of the match.
