Texas Splits Home and Away Against Texas State

What was once considered a charity match-up against little sister Texas State University is a match-up of equals this season for the University of Texas.  The Texas Longhorns lost to the Texas State Bobcats by a final score of 7-to-3.  The teams are 1-and-1 in this year’s series.

Texas State exploded for six runs in the fourth inning.  The Bobcats loaded the bases on back-to-back walks to Aaron Lugo and Rashawn Galloway, and a single by Ethan Farris.  After a change of pitchers, Luke Harrison replacing Texas starter Easton Tumis, a walk to Alec Patino plated the game’s first run.  A single by Chase Mora scored Farris and Galloway.  Alex Gonzales’ home run cleared the bases, giving Texas  State a 6-to-0 lead.

Texas fought back in the fifth inning, starting with Jared Thomas taking first base after being hit by a pitch.  Thomas advanced to third base on Peyton Powell’s double.  A wild pitch by Matthew Tippie allowed Thomas to score and moved Powell to third base.  Powell crossed the plate on Max Belyeu’s double down the left field line.

Texas State clawed back a run in the sixth inning on Kameron Weil’s sacrifice fly, scoring Alec Patino.  Patino reached base on a walk.

The Longhorns made a final offensive effort in the seventh inning, starting with Thomas’ solo home run to right field, but the rally fizzled.

Texas starting Tuis (3-1) took home the loss, allowing three runs on two hits in 3.1 innings of work.  Texas State relief pitcher Taylor Seay (2-0) earned the win, holding Texas scoreless in 1.1  innings on the mound.
