Austin FC Shuts Down Conference Leading LA Galaxy
April 27, 2024Diego Rubio and Jader Obrian each scored in the first 20 minutes, and Brad Stuver masterfully stared down 17 total shots to lead the Austin FC over the LA Galaxy 2-to-0.
Obrian was the man of the match for Austin victory, setting up Rubio’s goal in 7th minute, with a skillful exchange of passes. Obrian then scoring his own in the 19th on quick counterattack that began with an Alex Ring tackle.
LA pressed exceeding hard in the second half, but the defense, as it has been thus far this season, kept Austin alive. With Stuver between the posts, the back line of Jon Gallagher, Brendan Hines-Ike, Julio Cascante and Guilherme Biro, with, shut down the Galaxy’s attack. The clean sheet was the team’s second consecutive and fourth of the season.
“At home you want to set the tone and play in their end,” Austin FC head coach Josh Wolff told reporters after the match. “We knew we had a speed advantage in certain places and wanted to exploit their vulnerabilities and make them count.”
