Reno Tops Round Rock in Series Opener

The Reno Aces topped the Round Rock Express by a score of 4-to-1 in the first game of their six-game series.  Brett Johnson led the Aces with two hit and two runs batted in. 

Reno starter Blake Walston earned the win, holding Round Rock to one run on six hits in six innings on the mound. Walston struck out seven and walked two.  Brandon Hughes, Josh Green and Andrew Saalfrank each pitch an inning of scoreless, hitless relief, with Saalfrank earning the save. 

Kyle Barraclough went home with the loss for the Express, allowing three runs on five hits in 4.2 inning pitched.  He struck out five and walked three batters. 

The Aces opened the scoring in the first inning, beginning with Kyle Garlick reaching on an error, followed by a walk to Andres Chaparro and Tristin English being hit by pitch.  Kolten Wong’s single plated Garlick. 

Reno added to their lead in the fourth inning, starting with singles from Wong and Bryson Brigman.  Both runners scored on Johnson’s double to right field. 

The Express found the score board in the fifth inning.  Dustin Harris drew a walk and advanced to second base on a wild pitch.  Harris scored on Andrew Knapp’s single to right field. 

Reno capped the score with Kyle Garlick’s solo home run against relief pitcher Jesus Tinoco. 

Knapp led the Express offensively, going 2-for-2, drawing three walks, and driving home Round Rock’s only run.
