Near Perfect: Texas over Siena
May 17, 2024Texas starting pitcher Mac Morgan came within one batter of throwing a perfect game, leading the Longhorns over the Siena Saint Bernards, 5-to-0, in the first game of the NCAA Austin Regional Championship.
Morgan retired the first 20 batters she faced before walking Jocelyn Ulrich on four pitches. Texas promptly secured the next out to secure the no-hitter.
When asked if she gave though to the possibility of a perfect game, Morgan told reporters, “Nope, not at all.” She added, “you don’t watch the scoreboard, you just do your job.”
The no-hitter was the 56th in school history and just the fourth complete-game no-hitter in an NCAA tournament game.
Texas was led offensively by Viviana Martinez with three hits in three appearances, including a home run, for two runs batted in. Ashton Maloney and Kayden Henry each went 2-to-4, with Maloney adding an RBI.
