Austin FC Lets Victory Slip Away

The Austin FC were on the verge of a major upset, leading LAFC until the final minute of regulation play.  But conservative play, in lieu of a significant offensive threat, forced the Austin FC into a defensive bunker for the entire second half, eventually resulting in a 1-to-1 draw.

Torrential rains made for difficult playing conditions for most of the match, sending many fans in the wind-blown seats to the premium club to watch the second half.

Austin opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Jader Obrian took a Sebastian Driussi pass, race half the length of the pitch, to beat goalkeeper Hugo Lloris with a shot from the top of the box to the far righthand corner of the goal.

LA controlled the play for  59% of the match, and 67% of the second half, and out-shot Austin 16-to-3.  Austin could muster but a single shot-on-target compared to LA’s three.

LA tied the match in the 90th minute with Kei Kamara collecting a centering pass from Mateusz Bogusz from the right side of the goal and sending it to the far left side for the score.  The goal was Kamara’s 145th in MLS, tying Landon Donovan.
