Pitching Lift Express Past Chihuahuas

The Round Rock Express (38-39) silenced the El Paso Chihuahuas (33-45) by a final score of 3-to-1.  The win was Round Rock’s first of the second half of the season.  The minor league season is divided into halves, with the top finishers advancing to the playoffs. 

Express pitchers scattered a total of six hits in route to the victory.  Starting pitcher Gerson Garabito allowed one run on four hits in 5.1 innings on the mound, striking out five batters without allowing a walk, for no decision.  Blake Taylor was awarded the win for 1.2 innings of work, holding El Paso scoreless and striking out two batters.  Kyle Barraclough pitched two scoreless, hitless innings to earn the save. 

Chihuahuas starting pitcher Miguel Cienfuegos held the Express to one run on four hits in 5.0 innings on the hump.  Relief pitcher Tommy Nance went home with the loss, giving up two runs on two hits in one inning of work. 

Matthew Batten put El Paso on the scoreboard in the top of the first, singling to plate Clay Dungan.  Dungan reached first on a lead-off single and stole second base. 

Round Rock evened the score in the third inning, beginning with Trevor Hauver’s lead-off double.  Hauver crossed the plate on Jonathan Ornelas’ single. 

The Express took the lead with a two out, seventh inning rally.  Matt Duffy singled and moved to second base on Dustin Harris’ single.  A wild pitch by relief pitcher Nance advanced both runners into scoring position.  Blaine Crim brough home both runs with a single to center field. 

Crim led the Express with three hits in four appearances, driving home two runs. 

Tirso Ornelas led El Paso going 3-for-4 at the plate.
