Bats Bring the Win for Round Rock
June 30, 2024The Round Rock Express (40-40) blasted the El Paso Chihuahuas (34-47) by a final score of 14-to-3. The Express scored double-digit run for the second consecutive night to earn the series split.
El Paso jumped to an early lead with Nate Mondou’s sacrifice fly, plating Clay Dungan. Dungan reached base on a double.
Round Rock’s quiet start ended in the third inning. The Express loaded the bases on singles by Jax Biggers and Jose Barrero and a walk to Trevor Hauver. Infield ground-outs by Matt Duffy and Justin Foscue plated two runs. A walk to Sandro Fabian set the stage for Sam Huff’s three run home run to left field. The four-bagger was Huff’s eighth of the season.
The teams exchanged two runs in the fifth inning making the score 7-to-3.
The Express cushioned their lead with a four-run sixth inning, starting with a pair of walks to Blaine Crim and Barrero. Hauver’s double brough home Crim and Barrero, and Hauver scored on Foscue’s double. Foscue later crossed the plate on Fabian’s single.
Round Rock added two additional runs in the seventh, and one in the eighth to culminate an early July 4thcelebration.
Express starting pitcher Johnny Cueto (2-1) secured the win, allowing three runs on three hits in six innings on the mound. He struck-out two batters without a walk.
Chihuahua starting pitcher Jhony Brito (0-1) went home with the loss, giving up fourn runs on two hits, walking two batters in 2.2 inning of work.
