Space Cowboy Edge-out Express
July 3, 2024The Sugar Land Space Cowboys (54-30) edged-out the Round Rock Express, 4-to-3, in the team’s annual Independence Day celebration. The Express travel to Sugar Land for the Cowboy’s July 4th festivities.
The Space Cowboys took control in the second inning with Pedro Leon reaching base on a hit-by-pitch, stealing second, and scoring on Omar Narvaez’s sacrifice fly.
The visitors took a 3-to-0 lead in the third with Jesus Bastidas taking first on a hit-by-pitch, followed by Shay Whitcomb’s 19th home run of the season to left center field.
Round Rock responded in the bottom of the frame with Jax Biggers’ lead-off walk, followed by a walk to Trevor Hauver. Ezequiel Duran’s line drive single to center field plated Biggers. Hauver later scored on Blaine Crim’s single to left field.
The Express evened the score in the fourth, again starting with a lead-off walk to Jax Biggers. Joes Barrero’s double to center field scored Biggers for the game-tying run.
Sugar Land regained the lead, and ultimately the win, on Quincy Hamilton’s solo home run to left center field.
Express starting pitcher Gerson Garabito (!-4) suffered the loss, allowing all four runs on six hits. He walked one batter and stuck-out two.
Space Cowboys started A.J. Blubaugh took home the win, yielding three runs on four hits, striking out six batters and walking four.
