Late Rally Puts Space Cowboys over Express

The visiting Sugar Land Space Cowboys (66-37) plated five runs in the final three innings to defeat the Round Rock Express (51-51) by a final score of 7-to-4. 

Round Rock starting pitcher Tyler Mahle, rehabbing from the Texas Rangers, earned a no decision after tossing 4.2 innings, allowing two runs on three hits, one walk and four strikeouts. Express reliever Owen White when home with the loss, allowing three runs on two hits and two walks. 

Sugar Land starter Rhett Kouba pitched five innings, allowing four runs on five hits for no decision.  He walked three batters and struck-out three.  Space Cowboys relief pitcher Nick Hernandez was assigned the win, pitching one inning with no run or hits. 

Sugar Land jumped out in the second, scoring runs on Dixon Macahado’s ground out, plating Zach Dezenzon, and Cesar Salazar’s double, bring home Quincy Hamilton. 

Round Rock response in the bottom of the third inning beginning with Trevor Hauver’s two run home run to right center field.  Andrew Knapp added two more runs with a bases-loaded single to right field. 

The Space Cowboys started their come-back in the seventh with Salazar’s RBI single, plating Jacob Melton. The rally extended into the eighth inning starting with Shay Whitcomb’s solo shot over the left field wall.  Hamilton’s double brough home Dezenzo and Melton.  Hamilton then scored on Machado’s single. 

Hauver led the Express offensively, going 2-for-3 night with a double, home run and two RBI.  The game was his 12th multi-hit effort of the season.
