Texas Soccer Ignites Topping CSU Bakersfield
August 18, 2024After an uninspiring season opening win, the floodgates opened for the University of Texas Longhorn women’s soccer team, defeating the University of California Bakersfield Roadrunners, 4-to-nil.
Texas’ offensive attack was massive, churning out 36 total shots, 21 on-target. The top shot-producers were: Lexi Missimo, five shots (four on-target), Avery Clark, four (three on-target), Rosa Maalouf, four (two on-target), Trinity Byars, three (two on-target) and Holly Ward, three (one on-target).
The shots the counted came from Clark, finding the back of the net in the 32nd minute, assisted by Chloe Shimkin and Lauren Lapomarda. Maalouf doubled the Texas lead ten minutes later on an unassisted goal. Byars opened the second half with an unassisted score. And Missimo rounded out the scoring in the 51stminute, assisted by Byars.
The Longhorns showed improved execution, committing only two offside infractions. But the excessively hot temperatures (the match was played in 100-degree temperature with 30% humidity) likely shorten tempers. Texas committed ten fouls and CSUB, nine.
Mia Justus earned her second clean sheet in as many outings this season, making four saves. Shell-shocked Bakersfield goalkeeper, Hollee Hercik, faced 15 shots on-target.
