Sacramento Takes Round Rock in Extra Innings
September 10, 2024A rather humdrum regulation game turned into an explosive extra innings finish as the Sacramento River Cats (75-64) took-down the Round Rock Express (66-71) 11-6 in eleven innings. The teams scored a combined 11 runs in the extended frames.
Round Rock starting pitcher Dane Dunning was headed to his first win, having allowed two runs on three hits, striking out six and walking one batter in six innings on the mound. Rehabbing Texas Ranger reliever Josh Sborz edged Dunning closer to the win by pitching a clean seventh innings.
But Jacob Lantz allowed a run in the eighth inning, tying the game at 3-3, ultimately send the game into extra innings and earning the blown save.
Daniel Robert took over for Lantz midway through the scoreless ninth inning, but later allowed three runs in the tenth. The Express bats evened the score in the bottom of the frame.
Aidan Anderson picked up for Robert in the eleventh inning, and allowed five unanswered runs. Anderson was assigned the loss.
Sacramento sent seven pitchers to the mound in the effort. Kolton Ingram entered the game in the tenth inning and earned both a blown save and the win. Evan Gates closed out the contest for the River Cats pitching a perfect eleventh inning.
David Villar led the River Cats with three hits in six appearances, including a home run, to drive in five runs. Trenton Brooks also homered for the visitors, going 2-for-6 with three RBIs.
Blaine Crim and Matt Duffy led the Express, each contributing two hits and one RBI.
