Arizona State Claws Back Win Over Texas State

The Arizona State Sun Devils scored the final ten points of the game to defeat the Texas State Bobcats, 31-28.  The loss was Texas State’s first of the season. 

ASU scored on their initial possession, taking an early 7-0 lead. Texas State responded with three touchdowns before the Sun Devils added two of their own.  The teams went to locker room at halftime tied, 21-21. 

The second half started slow for both teams, exchanging three-and-out.  ASU was intercepted on their next possession by the Bobcats failed to convert. The teams later traded touchdowns to close out the third quarter. 

The pivotal moment of the game came on a Texas State fumble by Ismail Mahdi early in the final frame, resulting in an ASU field goal.  Neither team could muster an effective offensive challenge for the remainder of the game. 

Texas State shut down ASU’s ground game, holding them to 2.4 yards per carry on 42 attempts.  They may up for it in the air, averaging 8.2 yards per attempt and going 19-for-30.  Texas State had the advantage on total offense, 400-to- 347. 

Quarterback Jordan McCloud carried the Bobcats, accounting for all four touchdowns. ASU relied upon the ground game for the final punch-in for three of their four TDs.
