Missimo Takes Texas Past Oklahoma
October 10, 2024A double-teamed Amalia Villarreal slotted a brilliant cross to Lexi Missimo whose header from the top of the goal area scored the match’s only goal. Texas defeated Oklahoma 1-0.
The goal was Missimo’s 52nd in here program career at Texas, tying he with teammate Trinity Byars. Missimo also leads the program with 163 career points and 59 assists.
Commenting on the achievements, Texas head coach Angela Kelly said, “(Lexi) has been doubled- and tripled-team her whole career and she still finds the space to get shots off. Like tonight, she had five shots and four of them were on goal. She’s such an exceptional talent and we are so incredibly fortunate that she came to Texas.”
Both teams played an incredibly tight match, with Texas taking a 6-to-5 edge in shots-on-target and a 5-to-4 advantages on corner kicks. Oklahoma’s frustrations showed as they accumulated nine fouls to Texas’ six.
The match was noteworthy for several other achievements, Senior defender Lauren Lapomarda the only player in program history to appear in 92-or-more career collegiate women’s soccer matches. Additionally, match was the 16th consecutive that Texas has not lost at Mike A. Myers Stadium, becoming the second-longest streak in program history.
