Come From Behind Falls Short: Arkansas over Texas
October 18, 2024The #24 Texas Longhorns could not overcome three-consecutive goals by the #5 Arkansas Razorbacks and lost by a final score of 4-3 in SEC women’s soccer.
Texas’ Holly Ward was on fire, scoring the match’s opening goal at the seven-minute mark, and threatening Arkansas’ goalkeeper Keegan Smith on several later occasions.
Arkansas’ Ava Tankersley was Ward’s equal, and more, tying the match at 1-1 in the 15th minute, and giving the Razorback’s the lead in the 57th minute.
Lexi Missimo found the back of the net, between Tankersley’s two goal, giving the Longhorns the lead for about 25 minutes. Ward assisted on Missimo’s goal.
Arkansas’ Kate Doyle’s unassisted goal in the 72nd minute put the match out of reach for the Longhorns.
Texas pushed hard in the second half, but Arkansas effectively contained the Longhorns to their half of the pitch. Ashlyn Miller, assisted by Missimo, succeeded in breaking-away and scoring in the 78th minute, to bring Texas within one goal.
The Razorbacks effectively squelched the Longhorns’ effort to take home the win.
