Texas Enters Christmas Break Behind Solid Performance

It takes a lot to make Vic Schaefer happy on the basketball court.  But the #6 Texas women’s basketball team did it, giving Schaefer a complete game in their 103-57 win over the South Dakota Jackrabbits.

“I think our kids took it from the practice floor to the game tonight.  Played really well,” said Schaefer.  “There’s a lot of good things in there.  Bottom line, I thought our kids played really hard and I’m proud of them.”

Texas was led by freshman Justice Carlton with 19 points and nine rebounds.  Taylor Jones put up 15 points and 11 rebounds for her 4th double-double and 22nd of her career.  Freshman Jordan Lee added 14 points and four rebounds.   And Rori Harmon notched 13 points, seven assists and a season high six steals.

The Longhorns shared the ball with 25 assists, and committed only seven turnovers.  They forced 21 turnovers, producing 31 points.  And the Longhorns converted 18 offensive rebounds into 24 points.

Aaliyah Moore’s absence from the lineup (knee tendinitis) gave Schaefer the opportunity to use a four-guard lineup.

“I thing that line up creates problems for people.  Defensively, we’re really good in it. We can get out in passing lanes, create some problems, we’re good in the press.  And we can switch a lot of stuff.  This way we can keep people in front of us.  It’s something I’ve had in my back pocket for a while,”  said Schaefer.

The Longhorns will take the next four days off for Christmas and will return to take on UT Rio Grande Valley.

The players are headed home for the short break.

As for Schaefer, “I’m gonna be standing in about knee deep water in the morning, calling a duck.  Have my son with me and my dog, my hunting dog, not my show dog.  We’ll enjoy some time together in the morning, and we’ll wet a line and fish in the afternoon.   I’ll probably sit in my bow stand a couple of nights with my computer in my lap and watch film.  Don’t really care of I see anything or not, but I usually see a lot.  I get more work done sitting in bow stand in a bow blind than I do sitting in my desk.  I’ll just enjoy time with family, I’m really blessed with Holly, Logan, and Blair here, and were all together at Christmas.  It’s just a special time for us.  We really embrace the Christmas season.”

Merry Christmas, ya’ll.
